The (NON-Toxic) Vibes to Check Out Now
Why include an article about great vibrators on a blog about transforming sex? It’s crazy to think that talking about sex is all it takes to transform it. Ultimately, talking about self-expression and freedom, and experiencing it, are two different things.
So that said, it’s valuable to look at practical matters, like what brings you pleasure? For some people, it’s entirely about connection. For others, it’s about touch – bodies moving together. And for others, toys fit the bill. We’ll explore all them in this blog. But for today, the focus is vibrators!
When someone asks what toys to try, it’s not easy to answer. People’s tastes vary tremendously, and I’ve never consistently found one vibrator that suits everyone. Also, vibrators are a bit like clothes – fashion changes!! There are new toys all the time, so the cool thang you found last year might already be gone and replaced by this year’s latest trend.
That said, some stores make shopping easier. Babeland is one great online source for toys - They have vibes for all tastes, complete with ratings on intensity, noise volume, and reviews from users. They carry many high quality products, and provide information on materials used in the product. (If you saw my last article on phthalates, you’ll know why that matters.) Unlike most toy stores, Babeland also allows returns on defective products. You’ve got 30 days to determine if it’s defective, which gives you an incentive to use it a lot for that first month.
I’ve compiled a list of fun toys to check out, that are phthalate-free.

1) Ultra-modern and High-Tech: At $185, the Sasi ain’t cheap. But it is arguably the most high-tech vibe on the market. This silicone sweetheart has two modes: “natural” where it does what you tell it (aka normal, like how most vibes work). But it also has a “learn” mode, where it discovers what you like. It varies the speed, intensity and movement, and you push buttons like “skip” or “don’t stop” to tell it what you like. It remembers your preferences, and focuses on the movements you prefer, while still giving you a different experience each time.

2) Toys to Use During Intercourse: The silicone We Vibe is two-ended and curved, so it both cups your clitoris, and massages your G-Spot, while leaving room for a partner, too. $104.

3) Toys That Are Also Works of Art: in the last years, people have stopped hiding our toys, and started bragging about them. In response, manufacturers have begun making vibrators that are so pretty, you can leave them out as decorations. The silicone Delight is is one such vibrator. Besides being great for both clitoral and G-stim, it’s also an attractive conversation piece, that adds beauty to your bedroom. $130

4) Dual-Action Branch Vibrators. Several years ago, Sex and the City had an episode where Charlotte discovered a new vibrator. It was so good that she stopped going out in the evenings. This vibrator was the Vibratex Rabbit Pearl ($84). What made it great? It has a barreled section that can goes inside the vagina and rubs around the G-spot, but it also has “rabbit ears” to tickle the clitoris. It’s one of the best sources of dual simulation. The original Rabbit Pearl has some phthalates, but it’s a small amount compared to most toys. The reduction in phthalates was a huge breakthrough when this toy was designed! (Vibratex was a leader in looking out for women’s health.) Since then, they’ve produced a very similar toy, the Rabbit Habit ($90), which is made from Elastomer instead. It has all the same great feelings, with zero phthalates.

5) Cheap and Practical. The hard plastic Berman Athena Vibe is pocket-sized AND waterproof so you can use it in the bath. At $20, you can’t beat the price.

6) Totally Intense. And then there’s the queen of vibrators, the Hitachi Magic Wand, $54. Users either love or hate the Magic Wand. It’s one of the most intense vibrators available, and was made famous in the 70s as many women were discovering their orgasmic potential for the first time. My husband sometimes steals mine to use on his feet after volleyball tournaments. (And for that reason, there are attachments to cover the vinyl head, see below). The downsides? It’s loud (there is no using this secretly if you have housemates), it also needs to be plugged in to the wall, and it might numb you to other sensations (like human hands). But if you love big intensity, this vibrator IS the way to go. For a vibrator that’s similar in intensity but is cordless (and a little more expensive), check out the Acuvibe ($75).
7) Attachments for the Magic Wand. Many people cover the head of their magic wand with an attachment. It makes the wand more versatile, and spreads the vibrations through silicone (silicone smooths the vibrations). And, if your partner borrows your wand to massage their feet after volleyball tournaments, it’s nice to have an attachment for your personal places. Here are some popular ones:

a. Off With Your Head: An attachment that covers the Wand’s head, and adds nubs. Perfect for clitoral or vulva stimulation.
b. Gee-Whiz: This adds vibrating penetration to your wand.
c. Or, there’s a special price if you get the Magic Wand and the Gee Whiztogether.
Vibrate on!!

Awesome and educational articles on both toxic toys and the new high tech toys. I’ll have to try some of them out!
Thanks Candace! If you do try some, let me know what you think! Big hugs, Ellie
Hey Ellie! Great recommendations for toys. This is the first time I’ve been to your blog and it’s great. Thanks for what you do and keeping your mission real!
